Built on trust
between man
and nature

Trace the journey of the world’s finest down. Hand-gathered from the wild, meticulously refined, and certified for enduring comfort.

The nesting grounds are prepared

Long before a Breiða duvet is crafted, the process begins on the Icelandic nesting grounds. Each season, the land is prepared with care to make it calm, safe and welcoming so the wild eider ducks can return to nest as they have done for centuries.

The eiders return

When the eiders arrive, a quiet relationship of trust begins. To endure the winter, the eider duck relies on her natural down. As nesting season begins, hormonal changes loosen these soft fibers to form a brood patch, allowing her body warmth to reach the eggs while she lines her nest. While the birds nest in peace, people watch over and protect the grounds, waiting patiently.

The down is gathered by hand

Only when the time is right is the down gathered gently by hand. The raw eiderdown is then carefully cleaned of grass and natural debris before being inspected by specialists.

From down to duvet

At last, the eiderdown is placed inside the Breiða duvet. It is a simple, time-honored process from the nesting grounds to the finished piece, made to bring lasting comfort to your home.
